Saturday Open Results
6th March 2010
Eighteen anglers this week and the catch rate is on the up. With only four anglers not weighing in, 8 caught into double figures. Rich Grant took 1st with an impressive 50.8lb. 26.4lb was good enough for second place from Ian hughes, with Danny getting close with with 25.8lb.
A total of 220lb was caught this week which is a big improvement on February and shows the fish are starting to get feeding again after a very prolonged cold spell.
The Pools will start to take on their Spring transformation over the next few weeks and the fishing will start to 'Hot-Up'...lets hope the weather does too.
On a real plus note....The old Horse Shoe cafe has been transformed by Darren form the 'Tackle Shack', along with the help of his family and as the new owner, Darren has renamed the venue the 'Snack Shack'. Not only has he transformed the cafe in layout and looks, more importantly, he has transformed the 'FOOD'. With Hot and cold food and drinks available at sensible prices, why not give it a try...but...be warned....after the 'BIG' Breakfast, you may not beable to walk back to your swim.....!!!!! Keep an eye on the news section for updates as Darren has plans for the future of the Snack Shack...
27th February 2010
20 anglers gave the Saturday Open a go...After some low weights in the previous weeks, the change in the the temperature, although still cold, had the fish feeding and Richard G topped the scales with 37lb. Ian was a close second with 32lb and Darral was a very close 3rd place with 31.2lb.
26th December 2009 - Match 10 - Boxing Day
The 'Freeze' was still upon us and showed no signs of letting up in the near future. Work was carried out on Christmas Eve daytime on the Pool with the Boat, JCB and by hand to break the ice as much as possible to allow fishing to take place. In parts of the pool, the ice was upto 3 inches thick and took the best part of the day to break down. On the day of the match, ice had reformed but not as thick which made the breaking easier from the boat with the help of Morse, Darren & Emma.

Full match details to follow
19th December 2009 - Match 9
The first 'Freeze' hit Jack's Pool this week and only the toughest anglers turned up to fish. The draw left some of the twelve with thicker ice than others and at the top end of the pool this took some breaking...

The start was delayed by 15 minutes to give everyone a chance at getting through the ice but during the course of the match the ice was reforming in some swims and anglers spent time having to re-break it.
The Bacon Rolls supplied by Doreen and Emma were welcomed by the anglers as temperatures struggled to get above -1 degree, although for those on the right hand bank in the sunshine the fishing was quite comfortable for the time of year.
The fishing proved very difficult and it was Alan (Lollipop or as he was on the day - 'Ice-Lollipop') that got off to a flying start with a fish from the in. At 8oz though the 'Gold Fish' didn't take much beating and we're not sure if he brought it with him from the local fair...!!!
Alan was one of four anglers that weighed-in but unfortunatley only took 4th spot with the single fish. Dale produced 4.1lb to take victory with Pat taking second with 3.1lb and George finished 3rd with 1.9lb
Pat deserves a special mention for the way he cut the ice infront of him. I have never seen such precise work!
Once again, thanks to you all for giving it a go in such cold conditions and don't forget the Boxing Day Special next Saturday...Merry Christmas!!
12th December 2009 - Match 8
Another good turn out with eighteen anglers braving the cold to give the fishing a go.....
This week though, the fish were not as active as the past few weeks and fishing was tough with only 158lb total weight being produced from the ten anglers that weighed-in.
The big surprise this week was however, that for only the second time in 8 matches our very own 'Morse' decided to once again grace us with his presence as an angler....and again he gave no cause for concern...who said that 'inside knowledge' can give you an advantage. Weighing-in with just over 10lb that brings his total for 2 matches to just under 25lb..Oh dear!!
Fortunately we had the benefit of some quality anglers once again and it seems that the 'new boys' are the ones to show the way. Following the lead from the 'Corby Hotrods' it was down to Keith, last weeks winner from 'Hawkesbury' (although we don't like to say that out loud), to once again show the rest how to do it.
Even though the weights were down from previous matches, Keith took top spot and another good winning payout with 27.4lb...congratulations again!
Lee from 'Corby Hotrods' was a close second with 24.8lb and Paul took the last payout with 18.12lb.
With weights like this it seems that Rob, also from 'Corby Hotrods' will hang on to his match record for sometime to come.
Thanks again to all the anglers that took part and support the fishery...see you all next week.
The Saturday Open Gallery under the Match tab has been updated with some recent snaps....
5th December 2009 - Match 7
Dryer weather was expected today and it seemed everyone had seen the forecast with the exception of the photographer again.....Glynn has spoken to him and he has promised he won't go AWOL again as he knows how much you all crave the publicity and glamour of being pictured on the Parkers Fishery web site!!
Eighteen anglers took part today and of the 12 that weighed-in they had a combined weight of 357lb...not bad for the time of year. Keith (see stock photo below) took number one spot with 63.12lb and 2nd and 3rd were the closest they have been for a long time with Dave Orril taking 55.12lb and Darryl Moore with 55.6lb...the scales must have come under some scrutiny that day!!
28th November 2009 - Match 6
Only the Die-Hard Anglers turned up today…even the photographer went missing for the day the weather so bad.
Of the ten anglers that took part only 5 weighed-in at the close of play. Paul Burrows (sorry, No photo but you know who you are) took the top spot with 58.4lb, which showed some good consistent angling. Second place went to Darryl with 37.8lb and Alan ‘Lollipop’ stayed with his good top 3 form with 27.6lb.
21st November 2009 - Match 5
On a day when bad weather was expected, it seemed that some anglers had been put off and at the 9am draw, only ten anglers were present.
Two new anglers to Parkers Fishery, Rob and Lee had decided to give the Open a go and try their luck….and what luck it was!
Jack’s Pool has always managed to produce good weights and the past few Saturdays 50lb+ were no surprise. With fishing showing on one side of the Pool in the morning before the draw it seemed that the Left Hand side was in favour but the result proves how un-predictable fishing can be.
Drawing a peg on the right hand side, Rob (Corby Hot Rods), pictured below, showed all the others just what Parkers can produce even at this time of year.
Having to split his catch into three separate weigh-ins, Rob would have took first place after the first weight was recorded at 41lb 2oz. With two further weigh-ins the total weight to take 1st place and set a NEW POOL RECORD for a 5 hour match was 117lb. Well done Rob!
It seemed that the new anglers certainly had the measure of the place as Lee, also from Corby weighed in with 33lb 2oz to take second place.Third place went to Shane with 25lb 8oz and Terry (Attleborough Angling), last weeks winner was the only other angler to weigh-in out of the ten with 21lb 6oz.
Thanks to all that took part and a special well done to Rob for taking the Pool Record. 117lb is going to take some beating.....
Just a reminder for those that may not arrive in time to put their name down, they can always phone in the morning and speak to Glyn on 07789 730912 who will make sure they are on the draw list
14th November 2009 - Match 4
The weather this week was 'wet' but that didn't stop the 16 anglers giving the Open another go. This week for the first time the Fishery Bailiff we all know as ‘Morse’(Glyn) decided to grace us with his presence as an angler instead of just the organiser….you could feel the tension as all looked to ‘Morse’ for inspiration and any ‘insider tips’.
Big results were expected.....
They didn't need to worry though as Glyn only managed 13lb 10oz...he's out of practice...or at least that his excuse.
The match did produce a big splash as one of the younger competitors ended up trying to save his umbrella in the high wind at the expense of ‘Falling In’. We hope you have dried out now and it hasn’t dampened (excuse the pun) your enthusiasm to fish again. It is good to see the younger anglers having ago at the, shall we say, more experienced guys.
Terry (Attleborough Angling), an angler that has not fished for a while at Parkers, came up trumps at the weigh-in with 55lb to take first place.(Below Pic)
Close on his heels with 53lb 4oz was Alan, which, incidentally, was only 4oz less than his 1st place weight last week an gives him a top 3 finish for the 3rd consecutive week...come on 'Team Lollipop'. In third place was Colin with 36lb 8oz. Of the 16 that took part, only 8 weighed-in at the final whistle which most put down to the poor weather and NOT poor angling!!
Once again, thanks to all that took part and see you all next Saturday...

7th November 2009 - Match 3
The weather is ‘closing in’ now and after last weeks 17⁰C it was too much to hope for that it would happen again. The 17 anglers that fished, endured to coldest temperatures so far. At the draw it was 3⁰C and only managed 7⁰C by mid-day.
It was good to see some new faces amongst the regulars, including two of the youngest anglers Parkers have had in a match and we hope they give it another go soon.

Fishing was slow, as is expected this time of year but ‘Lollipop’(Alan), fishing the Method Feeder, improved on his 3rd place last week with a winning weight of 53lb 8oz.
Darryl, another regular got 2nd place with 41lb 12oz using the Pole and in 3rd place was Mark using the Pellet Waggler with 37lb 8oz.
I fear that I have definitely given ‘Chuckle Brother’ Luke the kiss of death as this week he was a ‘no-show’…sorry Luke, I promise not to state that “you’re the man to beat” ever again!!!
Thanks to you all for taking part and see you next week.

31st October 2009 - Match 2
In contrast to the previous weeks Open, the weather was 17 degrees and looked perfect for fishing.
22 anglers took part in the match and expectations were high as the weights from the previous week had been good. Unfortunately, the fish had other ideas and the bites proved hard to get. For some, they proved impossible. I fear that my comment in the previous report about our very own ‘Chuckle Brother’ Luke, may have been the kiss of death for him as he was among the anglers struggling for bites.

This week, it was Gaz who was the man on form with an impressive 52lb 4oz (below) on a day when the fish didn’t want to be caught.
Dave had 45lb 14oz and ‘Lollipop’ (Alan) weighed-in with 42lb 4oz.

Section 2 was won with 26lb caught by a new angler at Parkers, Dave. Fred won Section 1 after a draw took place as some of the Section 1 anglers did not weigh-in but fished to the end of the match.
Thanks to all the anglers that took part and lets do it again next Saturday.....

24th October 2009 - Match 1

The first of the Parkers Fishery Saturday Opens took place today in all but ideal conditions. The nine anglers that took part found the fishing to be difficult from the off. The weather was windy and rainy for most of the 5 hours but none the less they all persevered and at the final weigh-in, ‘Chuckle Brother’ Luke, proved he is the man to beat at these opens, with an excellent 81lb catch.
The nearest to him was Darryl with a good weight of 58lb, including a nice individual 14lb common taken on the pole. Alan weighed in with 46lb to take 3rd place.
It was a good spirited and friendly match with plenty of ‘banta’ between the anglers including the two that had travelled from Birmingham to pleasure fish but decided to have a go at match fishing.
Thanks to all that took part and to Glyn for the organisation. We hope to see you all again next Saturday.
